Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has called on his old club to sign a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window. He believes that the current striker, Nicolas Jackson, isn’t scoring enough goals for Chelsea, which is affecting the team’s performance.
Mikel noted that while Chelsea is still creating chances and playing well, they are not being clinical enough in front of goal. This lack of finishing could prevent them from competing for the Premier League title this season.
“We are creating chances, playing well, and doing the right things, but we’re not clinical enough. We’re not scoring goals,” Mikel explained on The Obi One Podcast. “We need a top striker who can step in and win games when Jackson is not firing on all cylinders.”
Mikel added that although Jackson often gets into good positions, he struggles to finish his opportunities. He believes that a player like Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres could help Chelsea challenge for the title.
Jackson has scored nine Premier League goals this season but has struggled in recent matches, scoring only once in his last six games. Osimhen, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, is currently playing for Galatasaray on loan from Napoli. Gyokeres, who plays for Sporting CP, is also linked with a potential move to Manchester United.
As Chelsea looks to strengthen their squad, Mikel’s suggestion for a new striker could be a key move in the club’s pursuit of success this season.
