Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State recently reflected on the challenges of 2024, describing the year as tough but ultimately ending on a positive note. Speaking at the 2025 New Year State Banquet in Port Harcourt, Fubara acknowledged the difficulties faced throughout the year, particularly regarding the ongoing political tensions with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
“2024 was not an easy year, but it ended great for us,” Fubara shared, expressing relief and pride as the year closed despite earlier fears and uncertainties. He pointed out how, last year, many were anxious about the future due to political rivalries and disagreements.
In addition to this reflection, Fubara took the opportunity to praise former governor Peter Odili, calling him the cornerstone of Rivers State politics. He emphasized that Odili represents both the beginning and the end of the state’s political scene, highlighting the former governor’s influence and importance. “Peter Odili is the right face and the right image of our state,” Fubara said, underscoring Odili’s significant role in shaping the state’s political landscape.
The ongoing political rivalry between Fubara and Wike has created tension in the state, with both leaders vying for control over the political structure. Despite President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to ease the situation, the dispute continues, with Odili siding with Governor Fubara, offering support in the face of the ongoing tensions.
Fubara’s comments at the banquet reflect a moment of acknowledgment and appreciation for the key figures in the state’s politics, particularly Peter Odili, whose legacy continues to influence Rivers State today.
