In a heartening turn of events, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, the retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi, has been freed after a month in captivity. Alongside him, his driver was also released by the kidnappers.
Archbishop Okpala was abducted while traveling to Umuchu, a community in Anambra State, for a burial ceremony. His disappearance had left the community in shock and worry.
Though details about their release are still unclear, the news of their freedom has been met with joy across the Anglican Communion. The official Facebook page of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Nnewi shared the happy update, reflecting the relief and celebration among church members.
This marks the end of a harrowing ordeal for Archbishop Okpala, his driver, and their families, as they are now safely back.
