‘I joke less’ – Putin reveals how Ukraine war has changed his personality

In a recent speech in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened up about how the war in Ukraine has affected him personally. He explained that the conflict, which he calls a “special military operation,” has made him joke less and almost stop laughing altogether.

Putin admitted that he believes the war should have started earlier than 2022. Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, expecting a quick victory. However, the war has lasted far longer than Russian leaders anticipated and continues into its third year.

Talking about how the war has changed him, Putin said, “I joke less and almost stopped laughing.” This remark highlights the emotional toll the conflict has taken on him.

The Russian president also touched on U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Hunter was facing charges related to taxes and gun possession. Putin said that Biden’s move showed a more human side, contrasting it with his political role. “It turned out there was more human in Biden,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t criticize Biden for this decision.

Putin’s reflection on these events shows how deeply personal the consequences of the Ukraine war have been, not only for the Russian leader but also in global politics.
