Nigerian footballer Ademola Lookman has been named among the final five contenders for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the shortlist on Thursday, December 12.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Italy, is up against strong competition from Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams. The 27-year-old hopes to succeed fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year.
Lookman has had an outstanding year, scoring three goals and providing one assist for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. He also made history by scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.
This season, he continues to shine with 11 goals and five assists in 18 games for Atalanta under coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Lookman was even named Man of the Match in Atalanta’s Champions League victory over Real Madrid, solidifying his role as one of the team’s key players.
The CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16. Fans across the continent eagerly await the announcement of Africa’s best footballer for 2024. Will Ademola Lookman claim the title? We’ll find out soon!
