The Nigerian government has revealed that the e-gates installed at five of the country’s international airports have helped authorities arrest 10 wanted individuals. This was shared by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The e-gates are part of an advanced border control system linked to data from Interpol and local Nigerian security agencies. This system automatically flags individuals of interest, making it easier for authorities to catch them before they commit any crimes in the country.
Tunji-Ojo explained that these e-gates are similar to systems used in other countries like the US and the UK, where potential threats are identified and stopped early. This approach prevents crimes from happening and helps ensure that criminals are caught before they can cause harm.
The new e-gate system also removes much of the human involvement in immigration checks, reducing errors and speeding up the process. It can even detect fake passports using its advanced technology, allowing the Nigeria Immigration Service to profile passengers before they even arrive in the country. This innovation is a significant step in improving security at Nigeria’s airports and preventing potential threats.
