Brown Ideye, 2013 AFCON Winner, Signs with Enyimba

Brown Ideye, a key member of Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning team, has officially joined Enyimba FC for the remainder of the season. The veteran striker, who has been without a club since 2022, aims to help strengthen Enyimba’s attack as they compete in both the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) and international competitions.

Enyimba’s Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed the deal, expressing excitement about bringing the 36-year-old to the team. “We’ve been in talks with him for several weeks, and he has agreed to join us. We’re thrilled to have a legend like him in our club,” Ekwueme said. He also added that Ideye’s experience and skills will be crucial as Enyimba prepares for important upcoming matches, including a rescheduled NPFL match against Sunshine Stars and a CAF Confederation Cup clash against Black Bulls in Mozambique.

Ideye’s return to Nigeria’s top-flight football marks the end of a 17-year absence since he left Ocean Boys in 2007, where he had won a league and cup double. Since then, Ideye has played for clubs in Europe and the Middle East, with his most recent stint at Al Yarmouk in Kuwait.

This move comes after an attempt to join Rivers United in October fell through. Now, with his return to Enyimba, the club hopes that Ideye’s vast experience will make a positive impact on their quest for both domestic and continental success.
