Brazil’s president Lula undergoes brain surgery

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recently underwent surgery to treat a brain hemorrhage caused by a fall at home in October. The surgery was performed in São Paulo and was declared successful. The 79-year-old president is now in stable condition and recovering in the intensive care unit, with doctors closely monitoring his health.

Lula experienced a headache on Monday and had an MRI scan, which revealed an intracranial hemorrhage. As a result, he was transferred to São Paulo for surgery at the Sirio Libanes Hospital. A press conference is planned for 9 a.m. local time to provide more updates.

Back in October, Lula fell at home, suffering a small brain hemorrhage and head trauma that required stitches. After undergoing treatment and tests in early November, his condition appeared stable. However, the recent MRI revealed the need for surgery. Lula’s injury led him to cancel a planned trip to Russia for a BRICS summit in Kazan, following doctors’ advice to avoid long-haul flights during his recovery.
