Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has condemned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for setting up a shadow government in the state. Otti called the move a treasonous act and vowed to take legal action against the opposition party.
The governor’s strong remarks came during a meeting with labor union leaders in Abia. He expressed his concern over the PDP’s decision to establish a shadow government, which includes appointing a speaker and shadow commissioners. The PDP claimed this initiative was to hold the current administration accountable.
However, Governor Otti disagreed with the move, stressing that the concept of a shadow government does not exist in Nigeria’s presidential democracy. He directed the state’s Attorney General, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to take the necessary legal steps to address the situation according to the law.
“There’s nothing like a shadow government in a presidential democracy. The problem people have is ignorance, and they refuse to be educated. Shadow governments only exist in parliamentary democracies.
“What they have set up is, in essence, a government in exile, and since it is not recognised by law, it is treasonable,” he said.
