A 27-year-old driver, Aliyu Mohammed, has been arrested by the Niger State Police for allegedly stealing his employer’s car in Lagos. He was caught while driving the stolen vehicle to Minna.

According to the police, the driver confessed that he planned to sell the car in Kaduna to raise money so he could join a football academy. Before being arrested, Aliyu had contacted his employer, claiming that he had been robbed of the vehicle on Third Mainland Bridge. However, investigations revealed that he had taken the car on his own and was on his way to Minna with it.

This case highlights a shocking betrayal of trust as the driver sought to use the stolen car to fund his personal ambitions. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

“On 9/11/2024 at about 2130hrs, following a credible technical intelligence received, the Police operatives attached to the Tactical support team of the Command trailed and arrested one Aliyu Mohammed 27yrs of Bida around Tunga area of Minna with a Toyota Highlander vehicle bearing a Reg. No. LSR 102 GU,” the statement read.
 
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to be a driver working in Lekki area of Lagos, and that on the same date, he drove his boss who was traveling to the Airport, while he decided to steal the vehicle to Minna.
 
“He further confessed that he called his boss and told him that he had been robbed of the vehicle on the Third Mainland bridge, Lagos to cover up.
 
“He said his intention was to take the vehicle to Kaduna on the following day where he could sell it quickly and return to Lagos, before he was arrested in Minna.
 
“He claimed that he had been working with the victim for over three years and he’s been paid seventy thousand naira as monthly salary, yet he was not satisfied.
 
“He said he needed money money to join a football academy in Abuja, hence his reason to steal the vehicle. The suspect is under investigation at TST unit of the Command.”
