Bright Echefu, founder of Telecom Satellites Limited (TSTV), has launched a new pay-TV service called LUFT TV. This comes after the earlier struggles of TSTV, which had faced multiple service interruptions and left subscribers dissatisfied. With LUFT TV, Echefu promises a reliable and affordable entertainment experience for viewers in Nigeria and across West Africa.
At the launch event in Abuja, Echefu explained that LUFT TV will offer high-definition quality on multiple devices, aiming to make premium entertainment accessible and affordable. With satellite coverage reaching across West Africa, LUFT TV’s goal is to provide flexible, quality entertainment on a budget.
“LUFT TV is built on cutting-edge technology, delivering crystal-clear HD quality and flexibility to watch on multiple devices,” Echefu stated. “Our subscription plan is currently the most affordable among pay-TV providers.
For former TSTV subscribers, who faced issues with service reliability, Echefu assured that TSTV isn’t gone. He stated that TSTV will be back, and its subscribers will soon be able to access LUFT TV as part of this new platform. This statement came as a relief to TSTV customers who felt left in the dark after service disruptions.
Echefu emphasized LUFT TV’s commitment to supporting Nigerian culture and values. The new platform will feature local dramas, music, sports, and stories, giving Nigerian viewers content that speaks to their interests. Echefu expressed hopes that LUFT TV will go beyond just a pay-TV service, aiming to connect people through shared stories and culture.
The launch event saw strong support from state governors. Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, praised Echefu’s persistence and likened LUFT TV’s mission to how Globacom introduced per-second billing to Nigeria’s telecom industry, breaking MTN’s monopoly. He recommended a pay-as-you-watch model to make the service even more affordable.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also praised the new service, expressing hope that LUFT TV will provide quality options for viewers and make a positive impact on Nigeria’s entertainment landscape.
TSTV initially launched in 2017 with promises to disrupt Nigeria’s pay-TV market, dominated by DStv. However, TSTV struggled to maintain consistent service, and subscribers faced repeated outages. A 2020 relaunch brought some hope, but TSTV continued to face technical and financial issues.
TSTV is also dealing with a legal case involving a N380 million loan dispute with a former business partner. Echefu denies the fraud allegations, stating that the issue is simply a civil dispute, not a criminal matter.
With LUFT TV, Bright Echefu hopes to bring a fresh start and provide Nigerian viewers with quality, affordable TV that respects their needs. For past TSTV customers and new subscribers, LUFT TV offers a renewed promise for consistent, engaging content tailored to local tastes.
