Peter Fregene, who was a goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Green Eagles, has sadly passed away after a long battle with illness. His friend, Segun Odegbami, announced his death on Facebook on Sunday night, October 13.
Fregene had been on life support for the past week. He died while being surrounded by his wife, Tina, and two of his children. Odegbami expressed gratitude to everyone who supported Fregene during his illness, saying, “A few minutes ago, Peter ‘Apo’ Fregene, OLY, former goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Green Eagles, passed on to meet his Creator.”
In his tribute, Odegbami thanked everyone on behalf of Fregene’s family, friends, and the entire Nigerian football community. He said, “On behalf of all generations of Nigerian footballers, Olympians, sports persons… I say a big ‘thank you.’”
