The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public about the presence of a fake soap being sold under the name “Dettol Health Fresh Soap.” This counterfeit product is currently circulating in markets across Nigeria.
In a recent announcement posted on NAFDAC’s website, the agency confirmed that the manufacturer of Dettol, a well-known brand for antiseptic products, has stated that they do not produce any soap under the name “Dettol Health Fresh Soap.” This clearly indicates that the product in question is fake and does not come from the trusted Dettol brand.
NAFDAC is urging Nigerians to be cautious and report any suspicious products in the market to protect themselves from potential health risks. Counterfeit products not only deceive consumers but can also pose serious dangers to public health, as their contents are often unregulated and unsafe.
“The Marketing Authorisation Holder and manufacturer (Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria Limited) of Dettol Antiseptic products, received a consumer complaint regarding the above-mentioned product. The product was reported to have caused skin irritation to the complainant.
“The MAH has confirmed that the product is fake as they do not have any product by the name “Dettol Health Fresh Soap”. Dettol Antiseptic products are widely used in Nigeria for household disinfection and personal hygiene to prevent illnesses from germs (bacterial infection),” it said.
Consumers are advised to always purchase products from trusted and verified sources and to pay attention to the details on the packaging to avoid falling victim to counterfeit goods. NAFDAC continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of products in the Nigerian market and will not hesitate to act against any company or individuals involved in the distribution of fake products.
Stay informed, and if you come across the fake Dettol Health Fresh Soap, report it immediately to NAFDAC.
