The Osun State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to swiftly implement the Disability Law, which was recently signed into effect. This law is intended to promote equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities in Osun State.
According to Stephen Oluwafemi, the chairman of JONAPWD Osun, the quick approval of the Disability Bill by Governor Adeleke is commendable. This bill is a significant milestone toward ensuring that people with disabilities are treated fairly and have equal access to opportunities within the state.
Oluwafemi highlighted the importance of the government taking immediate steps to bring the law into action, especially during the ongoing teacher recruitment process. He emphasized that individuals with disabilities should be fairly represented and given equal opportunities in all employment opportunities across state government agencies.
The chairman also stressed that implementing the Disability Law will not only improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities but also contribute positively to the economic development of Osun State. He encouraged the government to ensure inclusive recruitment practices, provide necessary accommodations and support services, and allocate enough resources for the law’s implementation.
“We believe that the Osun State Government will take prompt action to fully enforce this law,” Oluwafemi said. “We look forward to working together to build a more inclusive society for all.”
By calling for immediate action, JONAPWD reminds the government and society at large of the crucial role that equal rights and representation play in building a truly inclusive and progressive community. The Disability Law has the potential to improve the lives of thousands of people in Osun State, but only if it is enforced effectively and fairly.
