Prominent Nigerian leaders gathered in Katsina on Tuesday, September 3rd, to attend the funeral of Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, were among the notable figures present. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Governor Umar Dikko Radda also joined the mourners.
Other dignitaries at the funeral included Datti Baba Ahmed, Senator Ahmad Lawan, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Senator Adamu Aleiro, businessman Dahiru Mangal, and the emirs of Katsina and Daura.
The funeral prayer took place at the Katsina township stadium in the Yar’Adua quarters, where Sheikh Aminu Yammawa led the proceedings. Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua passed away on Monday evening at the Katsina Teaching Hospital.
Hajiya Dada was known for her strong character and played a significant role in shaping the lives of her sons. She was the mother of the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2007 until his death in 2010, and the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, as well as Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.
