In a major political move ahead of the Edo State governorship election, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a well-attended APC rally held at Textile Mill Road in Benin, where Aikoriogie was joined by more than 5,000 of his supporters.
Explaining the reason behind his defection, Aikoriogie expressed admiration for Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s governorship candidate. According to him, Senator Okpebholo’s impressive track record as a senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District convinced him that Okpebholo is the right person to lead Edo State.
“If Senator Monday Okpebholo could achieve so much as a senator, I believe he has the capability to transform the state if given the opportunity to serve as governor,” Aikoriogie said during his address to the media.
Aikorogie also added,
“I am here today to lend my support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
“I am coming with my teeming supporters, my members and my party faithful to come and lend our support for the candidacy of Monday Okpebholo because we believe in his person because he is reliable and he is a doer. This time around, we need people who do things and not people who talk and no action.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo has been relating with the people, you can see and even from his senatorial district, even before he became a senator.
“You know he has been relating with his people. Someone like him as governor who has sympathy for the people and not people who came all the way from the blues and want to govern the state without any track records of human relationship or corporate social responsibility for the people”
“My advice is for the people to join hands and vote in the APC despite what is happening at the federal government level. we believe that with the new administration of Okpebholo, Edo State will be different.
Aikorogie added.
“We are going to experience economic development, youths employment, infrastructure development and a lot more. We must redeem Edo State from corporate brigandage”,
This move comes as a significant boost to the APC’s campaign, strengthening their chances in the upcoming election. It also shows that Senator Okpebholo’s development efforts have not gone unnoticed, gaining the support of key political figures like Aikoriogie.
The rally was a display of growing support for the APC as they aim to secure victory in the forthcoming election. With Aikoriogie and his supporters now backing Senator Okpebholo, the political landscape in Edo State is witnessing a notable shift.
