A Nigerian Immigration Service officer, Okpravero Ufuoma, has been suspended after a video of him asking a tourist for money went viral on social media. This incident took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
In the video, Officer Ufuoma can be seen asking the tourist, “What do you have for me?” When the tourist responded that he didn’t have any money, Ufuoma replied, “Common. If it comes from you, I am happy with anything.” The tourist then mentioned he had his card with him, suggesting they could get cash from an ATM. Ufuoma responded, “Give me some money and I will appreciate it.”
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) quickly reacted to the video by releasing a statement. They emphasized that Ufuoma’s actions do not reflect the values and ethics of professionalism upheld by the NIS. As a result, Ufuoma has been suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, which are in line with the law and Public Service rules.

This incident highlights the importance of maintaining ethical standards in public service roles and the swift action taken by the NIS demonstrates their commitment to upholding these standards.
