Lagos Students Choose Dialogue Over Protest

In light of the upcoming nationwide protests planned for August 1, students in Lagos State have made their stance clear: they will not participate. This decision comes as many Nigerians, particularly the youth, prepare to stage mass protests across the country to draw attention to the hardships faced by citizens.

During a press conference held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital College of Medicine in Ikeja, Mr. Alimi Lekan-Idris, President of the National Association of Lagos State Students (NULASS), spoke on behalf of the students. He urged Nigerian youths to prioritize dialogue over protest as a means of addressing their grievances.

“It is crucial that we remember the importance of peace and stability and use dialogue to achieve our collective goals,” Mr. Alimi stated. He emphasized that the students have observed significant contributions and progress from the Lagos State government. Therefore, they do not support any protest against the government of Lagos State.

Mr. Alimi’s message was clear: while the students acknowledge the hardships faced by many Nigerians, they believe that maintaining peace and engaging in constructive dialogue is the best way to achieve meaningful change.
