On July 23, 2024, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), took a stand against the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August. This protest, organized in response to rising hunger and economic hardship, has been labeled by Wike as a political move rather than a genuine call for change.
During his visit to inspect the Apo-Karshi road in Abuja, Wike expressed his displeasure with the protest plans. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and not expect immediate fixes to the country’s issues.
Wike assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to making improvements and delivering the benefits of democracy as swiftly as possible.
He pointed out that there have already been noticeable positive changes since Tinubu assumed office, and urged the public to trust the government’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges.
He said: “You can see that the planned protest is political and nothing more. We need to be patient with this government.”
