SSANU and NASU Members Clash with Security at Unity Fountain Over Unpaid Salaries

Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have gathered at Unity Fountain in Abuja to protest the non-payment of their salaries for the past four months.

The protest is being led by Mohammed Aruna Ibrahim, President of SSANU, and Comrade Peters Adeyemi, General Secretary of NASU. Both leaders expressed their frustration over the fact that, despite a directive from the President for the arrears to be paid, only members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) received their payments, leaving out SSANU and NASU members.

The protest took a dramatic turn when security personnel, who were stationed at Unity Fountain, prevented the protesters from leaving their gathering spot. This led to a minor confrontation between the protesters and the security forces.

The situation remains tense as SSANU and NASU members continue to demand the payment of their overdue salaries. More details about the protest and the ongoing dispute are expected to emerge soon.
