Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have taken 20 travellers hostage on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.
The incident occurred around 8 pm on Sunday when the gunmen ambushed the travellers between the Sagamu Police Area Command and Ilisan town.
A resident of Ilisan Remo was shot in the knee but managed to escape.
Otunba Wemmy Osude, the Chairman of Ilisan Development Council, confirmed the incident and said the injured victim is receiving treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
Osude said,
“Information reaching me right now confirmed a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (formerly Delabo).
“A resident of Ilisan (name unconfirmed) was reportedly shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital. He is in stable condition.
“Other victims were taken into the bush. While waiting for additional information, please contact your loved ones who may be plying that road at about this time to be cautious”
“I have spoken to the Sagamu Area Commander about this incident, and hopefully, we trust that all the security agents will go after these criminals and rescue these people,”
Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, had not yet responded to calls at the time of reporting.
