In Makurdi, heavy rain caused severe flooding in the High Level area, devastating residents and businesses. The construction of an underpass worsened the situation, according to locals.
Residents of High Level in Makurdi are facing significant losses following heavy rainfall on Friday. The flooding, attributed to the ongoing underpass construction, has severely affected the area.
According to reports, negligence by Baahaus Global Investment, Nig. Ltd., the company handling the underpass construction, exacerbated the flooding. Locals blame the company for blocking water channels and drainages, causing water to invade homes and businesses.
The flooding wreaked havoc on several buildings, including the property of Elder Thomas Anyaregh, where multiple shops were submerged. Tenants like Tobias Ezenkwo and Sylina Agwu suffered substantial losses due to damaged goods.
Mr. Anyaregh clarified that while he supports the underpass project, he strongly opposes the construction company’s incompetence. He criticized their failure to create adequate water channels despite repeated requests, leading to extensive damage to his and his tenants’ properties.
Deeply angered, Elder Anyaregh vowed to pursue compensation for the losses caused by the construction company’s negligence.
