Edo State Government Accuses Oshiomhole of Plotting to Rig Governorship Election

The Edo State government has made serious allegations against former governor Adams Oshiomhole ahead of the upcoming governorship election on September 21. According to the government, Oshiomhole is planning to rig the election in his hometown of Iyamho.

At a press conference in Benin City, Chris Nehikhare, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, claimed that Oshiomhole is working with the Commander of Mopol 60 and other officers. The accusation is that Oshiomhole intends to use the police to shield his supporters while they tamper with election materials and thumbprint ballot papers in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Nehikhare said the same thing happened during the 2020 election but was ignored at the time.

Nehikhare further alleged that APC agents have produced police uniforms and masks for thugs, allowing them to disrupt the voting process in areas where the APC feels they may lose. Areas such as Okpella, Lampese, Fugar, and Egor Local Government are reportedly targets for this plan.

Additionally, Nehikhare mentioned a plot involving a House of Representatives member who had brought in militants to disrupt elections in the riverine areas of the state. These militants have reportedly been housed in various hotels, and the Edo State government is urging security agencies to take immediate action.

These allegations highlight concerns over election security, with the government calling for swift intervention to ensure a free and fair election.
