Two Killed as Car Crashes Into Truck in Anambra

A tragic accident has claimed the lives of two individuals along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway, near Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State. The fatal crash, which occurred late on Friday, involved a private Toyota Camry with registration number UWN531AS and a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker, registered as ADM619XA.

Eyewitnesses at the scene have pointed to brake failure as the likely cause of the accident. The two vehicles reportedly crashed into each other with great force, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives.

Margaret Onabe, the Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, confirmed the incident. She revealed that four individuals were involved—three men and one woman. Sadly, two of them did not survive.

Onabe said,

An unidentified driver of a private Toyota Camry with registration number UWN531AS and a driver, identified as Sani Bappa, with a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker with registration number ADM619XA were involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Zone 13 by Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway at about 19:00hrs on Friday.

“The probable cause of the fatal crash was brake failure and loss of control. According to eyewitness, the Toyota Camry failed break, lost control of the vehicle, rammed into the tanker and crashed.

“Three male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash.

“One female adult and one male adult were killed, none injured, while two male adults were rescued unhurt.

“Before the personnel of the FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje arrived the scene, they were informed by DTO Dunukofia that the killed victims had been taken to the mortuary.

“The rescue team managed traffic and ensured the two vehicles were towed away from the road.

The FRSC Sector Commander for Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, expressed her deep condolences to the families of the victims. She emphasized the importance of obeying traffic rules and ensuring vehicles are regularly serviced to avoid such tragedies in the future.

Motorists were reminded to drive with care, keeping in mind not only their safety but also the safety of others on the road.
