Tragic Bus Accident in Edo State: Two Dead, Six Rescued

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, a tragic accident occurred when a bus plunged into the Ovia River in Edo State. Two people sadly lost their lives, while six others were rescued alive.

The accident happened when the bus driver lost control due to brake failure. In a desperate attempt to avoid crashing into other vehicles, the driver swerved into the opposite lane, leading the bus off the road and into the river.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State, led by Sector Commander Cyril Mathew, immediately began rescue efforts. According to Commander Mathew, the accident took place around 4:20 pm, and rescuers managed to save six people shortly after the crash. However, two passengers were found dead—one recovered on the same evening, and the other found the following day.

While efforts to rescue those still trapped in the river continue, chances of survival are unfortunately slim. Divers have been called in to assist with the recovery, but negotiations are ongoing as the divers have requested N2 million to carry out the operation.

Authorities are urging drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition to avoid such unfortunate incidents in the future.
