Nigeria and Rwanda Play 0-0 Draw in AFCON 2025 Qualifier

Rwanda and Nigeria played to a goalless draw in their second match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday in Kigali.

Rwanda started strong, energized by the support from their home fans, and controlled the first few minutes of the game.

However, Nigeria’s Super Eagles soon took charge of the match. Ademola Lookman was particularly active, giving the Rwandan defense a tough time.

In the 20th minute, Lookman was set up by Wilfred Ndidi, but Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre, made a crucial save.

Just three minutes later, Lookman found the back of the net, but the referee controversially disallowed the goal.

Nine minutes before halftime, Victor Boniface nearly put Nigeria ahead, but his shot hit the woodwork after a well-timed pass from Lookman.

At the start of the second half, Nigeria’s caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, made two substitutions. He brought on Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon in place of Victor Boniface and Samuel Chukwueze.

Nigeria created several good chances in the second half, but Ntwari Fiacre was on top form and kept the Super Eagles from scoring.

With the draw, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D with four points from two games.

Next month, Nigeria will host Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in their third qualifying match.
