Three Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested by Police in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command recently made a significant breakthrough by arresting three men suspected of armed robbery in Calabar. The police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrests in a statement. The operation was launched after a distress call on September 2nd, 2024, from a motorist who had been robbed of ₦455,000 worth of valuables while traveling from Ikom to Calabar.

The suspects were reported to have blocked a federal highway at Iwuru village in Akamkpa Local Government Area, forcing travelers to stop and hand over their possessions. Acting swiftly, officers from the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (ACKS) based in Uyanga responded to the call and successfully tracked the suspects to their hideout.

The arrested men were identified as Sunday Sunday Udo (27 years), Godday Friday Essien (22 years), and Kufre Edet Umoren (33 years). During the arrest, police recovered a locally made short gun, three machetes, and a short iron pipe. The men are currently in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are complete.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, applauded the quick response from his officers and urged residents to remain vigilant. He emphasized the importance of citizens reporting any suspicious behavior to the authorities and reassured the public of their safety with continued prompt responses from the police.

For emergency situations, the public can reach the Command through the following helplines: 08133568456 or 0705335541.
