Super Eagles Aim for Victory, Not Revenge, Against Benin Republic – Coach Eguavoen

Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has emphasized that his team’s main goal is to win their upcoming match against the Benin Republic, rather than seeking revenge for a past defeat. The Cheetahs of Benin handed Nigeria a 2-1 loss during a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June, which took place in Abidjan.

Now, both teams are set to face off again in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying game. The match will be held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 6.

Despite the previous loss, Eguavoen stressed that the Super Eagles are fully focused on securing all three points from the fixture, rather than dwelling on past results.

Eguavoen said,

“Starting with the match against Benin Republic on Saturday, nobody is mentioning anything about revenge,” Eguavoen maintained.

“Our goal is three points, and then we aim for another three points in Kigali on Tuesday that will put us in good stead for qualification.”
