Cristiano Ronaldo Makes History as the First Player to Score 900 Goals in Football

Cristiano Ronaldo has made football history once again, becoming the first male player to score 900 official goals. The Portuguese superstar hit this amazing milestone during his national team’s UEFA Nations League match against Croatia on September 5th, 2024, in Lisbon.

Ronaldo’s 900th goal came in the 34th minute of the game when he volleyed a cross from Nuno Mendes into the net from 6 yards out, putting Portugal 2-0 ahead. The game ended 2-1 in Portugal’s favor.

This achievement sets Ronaldo 58 goals ahead of his closest competitor, Lionel Messi, who has 842 goals. Brazilian football icon Pelé holds third place with 765 goals on the all-time scorers list.

Ronaldo, known for breaking records throughout his career, previously became the first player to surpass the 800-goal mark in late 2021 while playing for Manchester United. In addition to his club records, Ronaldo also holds the record for most international goals. He has scored 131 goals in 209 appearances for Portugal, a feat unmatched in men’s football. Messi is second on this list, sharing 109 international goals with former Iranian striker Ali Daei.

Ronaldo’s remarkable career continues to set new standards in football, and his latest achievement solidifies his position as one of the greatest players of all time.
