The Kano State Police Command has announced the death of Abba Burakita, a notorious armed robber and thug who was previously declared wanted. In a surprising turn of events, Burakita had surrendered to the police in 2023, bringing 40 of his followers with him, and claimed to have renounced his life of crime.

However, according to SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, Burakita succumbed to severe injuries sustained during a violent confrontation with rival gangs, as revealed during a press briefing at the police headquarters on Monday, September 2, 2024.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abba Burakita passed away while undergoing treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.

The incident occurred on August 30, 2024, at approximately 4:30 pm, when the police received distress calls regarding armed robbery syndicates led by Burakita and another individual, Halifa aka Duguja, terrorizing residents of Dorayi Quarters in Kano.

The robbers targeted innocent citizens, causing destruction to properties, including vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles. In response, the Commissioner of Police promptly deployed teams of operatives to cordon off the areas and apprehend the suspects.

As a result, the police team promptly took action, apprehending one of the ring leaders, Abba Bala Barakita, who was already on the Command’s wanted list for thuggery-related offenses.

Barakita was found with severe injuries sustained during a violent confrontation with rival groups.

Two additional suspects, Abubakar Idris (28) and Najibullah Yahaya (21), both residents of Dorayi Quarters in Kano, were also taken into custody. Despite receiving medical attention at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, Barakita succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

The incident is currently under investigation.
