On the afternoon of September 1, 2024, Mafa village in Yobe State became the latest victim of Boko Haram’s violent campaign. Around 4 p.m., insurgents mounted on over 50 motorcycles descended on the village, armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). Their attack was swift and brutal, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

The attackers looted several homes and shops, seizing goods and valuables before setting buildings ablaze. Flames quickly spread through the village, destroying homes and local businesses. The sheer scale of the attack has left the village in disarray.

As of now, the exact number of casualties remains unclear. Local police, led by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, have yet to confirm the total number of fatalities. The incident was reported to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station by Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, two residents who witnessed the violence firsthand.

In addition to the physical damage, the insurgents left behind fliers with Arabic writing, a tactic often used to spread their ideological messages. This added a psychological dimension to their attack, aiming to instill fear and demonstrate their continued presence and influence.

Authorities are currently investigating the attack and assessing the full impact on Mafa village. The local community is reeling from the destruction, and support from security forces and humanitarian agencies is expected to be crucial in the recovery process.
