Fire Breaks Out at Lagos State Government Staff Quarters, Ogba

In the early hours of Friday, a fire broke out at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in Ogba. The incident occurred around 2:20 am and affected one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5, Block 21, a three-storey building with 16 two-bedroom flats.

Preliminary investigations by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge in the children’s room. The fire completely destroyed the bedroom, leading to property losses worth millions of naira.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that the quick response from the agency’s emergency response team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Police Force helped contain and extinguish the fire swiftly. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and there were no injuries reported.

As of 5 am, firefighting teams were still working to fully bring the situation under control. In response to the incident, residents were educated on the safe use of electrical appliances to help prevent future occurrences.
