Erosion Destroys Key Bridge in Taraba, Cutting Off Communities

A vital bridge in Mayo-Kam village, within the Bali local government area of Taraba State, has been destroyed by erosion following heavy rainfall. This bridge was crucial for connecting various communities, including Gembu in Sardauna council, Baisa in Kurmi council, and Gashaka local government area.

The collapse of the bridge has significantly affected travel and transportation, as residents and travelers relied heavily on this route to access other parts of the state. The disruption is creating major challenges for both daily commuters and transporters in the region.

Local authorities and concerned residents are now urgently calling on the state government to step in and repair the bridge to restore safe passage. Until the situation is resolved, travelers are being advised to use alternative routes.

This disaster comes just a day after a similar incident in Namnai, where a major bridge connecting the state capital to Benue State and southern Nigeria was swept away by flooding.

Farmers in the affected areas are particularly worried, as the collapse of the bridge may prevent them from transporting their produce to nearby markets, which could severely impact their livelihoods.

Locals are appealing to the government to act quickly, as prolonged inaction could further disrupt movement and harm the local economy.
