Suspected bandits have reportedly launched another deadly attack in Kano State, killing one person and abducting the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area.
The latest attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, reportedly targeted Beli village in Rogo LGA, marking the third consecutive day of attacks across communities in parts of the state.
According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the armed attackers invaded the community at about 1:00 a.m., firing sporadically before storming the residence of the local APC chairman, Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.
The gunmen reportedly forced their way into the house, abducted Yahaya and took him to an unknown destination.
Yahaya is said to be a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who hails from the area.
A young resident, believed to be under 25 years old, was reportedly shot and killed during the attack, while several other residents allegedly sustained gunshot injuries.
“They came in firing sporadically and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away. On their way, they shot a young man, who died instantly,” the source said.
Residents of the area also took to social media to raise alarm over the attack and appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to intervene.
The incident is the latest in a series of reported attacks that have unsettled several communities in Kano State since Sunday.
On Sunday, suspected bandits reportedly attacked Chiromawa community in Garin Malam Local Government Area, killing three people and abducting an elderly man, who was later said to have escaped from his captors.
The attackers allegedly struck again on Monday night in neighbouring Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area, where two people were reportedly killed.
The latest attack in Beli has now brought the reported incidents to three consecutive days, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in affected parts of Kano State.
Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident as of the time of filing this report.
