Twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Ajitokewu from Lagos Island have distinguished themselves at Lagos State University (LASU), with one graduating with First-Class honours and the other emerging as the Best Graduating Student in his department.
The brothers, both graduates of the Department of Science and Technology Education, recorded outstanding academic performances at the university.
Taiwo graduated with First-Class honours in Biology Education, while Kehinde emerged as the Best Graduating Student in Computer Science Education.
Their achievement is particularly notable among the 20,604 students who graduated across two academic sessions, with only 494 attaining First-Class honours.
The twins’ journey to academic excellence was marked by determination, consistency and a commitment to personal development. During their undergraduate years, they secured two national scholarships, more than four local scholarships, international recognitions and two professional mentorship opportunities.
Both brothers were also selected as Millennium Fellows for the Class of 2025 from more than 60,000 applicants across 170 countries.
Beyond academics, the twins made significant contributions to their communities. Taiwo worked on a waste-management sustainability project focused on recycling and composting while serving as a LASU SDGs Youth Ambassador.
Kehinde, meanwhile, developed a digital infrastructure project aimed at promoting digital literacy and reducing the digital divide. He also held several leadership positions, including Assistant General Secretary of the Muslim Students’ Society.
Raised in Isale Eko, a historic but densely populated community on Lagos Island, the brothers said their background did not determine the limits of their aspirations.
Instead, they relied on discipline, strong values, faith and perseverance to pursue their goals and create opportunities for themselves.
Kehinde said their achievement demonstrates that excellence can emerge from any background, urging young people not to allow their circumstances to define their potential.
The brothers expressed appreciation to their parents, teachers and mentors for their support throughout their academic journey, while stating that they remain open to opportunities both in Nigeria and internationally as they begin the next phase of their careers.
