Obi’s Praise For North Is Hypocrisy, he repatriated northerners

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticised Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, over recent remarks highlighting northern Nigeria as the country’s most valuable asset.

Obi, a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), recently stated that development efforts should prioritise the north, citing its vast agricultural potential. He noted that the region’s uncultivated land could drive economic growth and generate greater revenue than oil if properly harnessed.

Responding to the comments, Sowore described Obi’s position as politically motivated, alleging it was aimed at appealing to northern voters. He argued that the remarks contradict Obi’s record while in office as governor.

Sowore further accused Obi of inconsistency, referencing allegations that northerners were previously repatriated from Anambra during his administration. He claimed such actions undermine Obi’s current advocacy for the region.

While acknowledging the economic potential of northern Nigeria, Sowore emphasised that all regions of the country possess significant value. He called for balanced development across the nation, stressing that prosperity is not region-specific.

According to Sowore, Nigeria’s progress hinges primarily on effective leadership rather than regional prioritisation, adding that with the right governance, all parts of the country can achieve sustainable growth and economic productivit
