Man accused of torturing his wife to death in Delta so he could marry his pregnant side chick

The Eboma family of Idumu-Oza Community in Agbor Kingdom, Delta State, is demanding justice following the tragic death of their daughter, Etunim Henrieta Ebere Sunday, a mother of three.

The family patriarch, Mr. Friday Eboma, told Ika Newspaper that Etunim suffered long-term domestic abuse by her husband, Mr. Ebere Sunday, an indigene of Alisimie, Agbor. According to Mr. Eboma, Ebere Sunday allegedly beat Etunim to death so he could marry another woman he claimed was pregnant for him.

The family said they only learned after her death how severe and frequent the abuse had been, ultimately causing her untimely death. The last reported attack occurred on January 23, 2026, when her children said their father locked their mother in the house and beat her with a Lister generator belt, causing her to faint and be rushed to the General Hospital, Agbor, for treatment.

After that beating, Etunim reportedly suffered ongoing illness until she passed away on March 24, 2026. Mr. Eboma said that while members of Ebere’s family tried to intervene, they will not accept excuses and insist he and his relatives explain the circumstances leading to their daughter’s death.

He recalled that Ebere, a carpenter, met Etunim during the Idumu-Oza road construction and persistently persuaded her to marry him. The children of the couple confirmed that their father frequently beat their mother, both at home and even at her shop on Imudia Street, Agbor.

The younger sister of the deceased, Blessing, said she traveled from Lagos to Agbor after receiving a distress call from her late sister, confirming that she had been tortured to death by her husband and had lived in fear and trauma due to ongoing abuse.

The Eboma family has vowed that Ebere Sunday will not go free for killing their daughter and has called on authorities to fully investigate the circumstances of Etunim’s death and ensure justice is served. Efforts to contact the accused for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
