Plateau killings: Attackers studied residents – Gov Mutfwang

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has explained that those behind the recent deadly attack in Jos carefully observed how residents behave before carrying out their plan.

He said the attackers took advantage of the calm situation in the area and pretended to be officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, which made it easier for them to strike without suspicion.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, the governor explained how the attackers used this trick to catch both residents and security operatives unprepared.

He described the incident as very troubling but said he believes it may not happen again.

According to him, the community and even security officers were taken by surprise because the area had been peaceful for many months.

He added that people were going about their normal activities that Sunday evening, not expecting any danger.

The governor further explained that residents are used to seeing NDLEA officials carry out raids in nearby areas, so when the attackers arrived in a similar way, people assumed it was a normal operation.

He said the attackers came wearing hoods and acted like NDLEA officers, which confused residents and delayed any response.

By the time people realised it was a real attack, a lot of damage had already been done and the attackers had escaped.

Mutfwang again described the situation as unfortunate and worrying, especially because it happened in the city centre, but expressed hope that such an incident will not repeat itself.
