The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspect over an alleged $550,000 fraud targeting a victim in the United States.
The suspect, identified as Emwanta Eghosa Smith, was tracked and arrested in Benin City, Edo State by INTERPOL operatives.
Authorities said the fraud involved identity theft and the use of online platforms, including cryptocurrency, to deceive the victim.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly impersonated top officials to gain the victim’s trust before stealing funds.
Police also recovered vehicles, a building, and counterfeit cash linked to the alleged crime.
The Inspector-General of Police urged Nigerians to be careful online and report suspicious financial activities to security agencies.
