Persistent power outages, rising heat force business closures in Kano

Persistent electricity outages in Kano State are making life difficult for residents and small businesses as rising heat worsens the situation. Many areas now experience long hours or days without power, affecting daily activities and income.

Communities like Naibawa, Fagge, Hotoro, and others are among those hit hard by the outages. Residents say electricity supply is now unreliable and often comes for very short periods, usually late at night.

Small business owners are among the worst affected. Vendors and artisans report losses as they struggle to operate without steady power, forcing many to shut down or find alternative means of survival.

Some residents have turned to solar power after losing confidence in the national grid. Others complain about receiving high electricity bills despite having little or no supply.

In some areas, residents have taken action by refusing to pay electricity bills until there is improvement in service delivery. They argue that payment should match actual supply.

The Federal Government has apologised for the ongoing power crisis and promised improvements, but many Nigerians remain doubtful as blackouts continue to affect homes and businesses.
