A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has questioned the process used in releasing Nasir El-Rufai from custody.

El-Rufai was released by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission following the death of his mother.

Effiong argued that a suspect held by a court order should not be freed without proper approval from the court.

He expressed concern over what he described as a possible irregularity in the process.

The lawyer also asked the anti-corruption agency to explain how the release was handled.

The issue has sparked public debate as El-Rufai’s bail hearing is expected soon.
