ASUU vows to resist UK’s Coventry University campus plan in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has rejected plans to allow a UK university to establish a campus in Nigeria.

Union president Chris Piwuna made this known during a public lecture in Bauchi State, saying the move will harm Nigeria’s education system.

He explained that the agreement was part of a deal signed during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the United Kingdom.

Piwuna described the plan as unfair and said ASUU would resist any attempt to introduce the foreign campus in Nigeria.

He also encouraged lecturers to focus on improving their financial stability through investments and other legitimate means.

The union insists it will continue to oppose policies it believes may affect the growth and independence of Nigeria’s university system.
