Amnesty International demands probe into alleged killing of man by soldiers in Maiduguri

Amnesty International has called on authorities in Nigeria to investigate the alleged killing of a civilian in Maiduguri. The group described the incident as deeply concerning.

The victim, identified as Abdulrahman Mustapha, was reportedly shot by soldiers while returning from a Sallah visit. Eyewitness accounts claim the incident occurred near the Polo area of the city.

According to reports, the body was later taken to a police station before being moved to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Amnesty International condemned the alleged act, stating it reflects ongoing concerns about human rights violations by security personnel. The group warned that such incidents could weaken public trust.

The organisation urged the government to ensure a transparent investigation and hold anyone found responsible accountable under the law. It stressed the importance of justice for the victim.

As of now, there has been no official response from the military authorities, while calls continue for accountability and respect for human rights across the country.
