Domestic Refining: Petrol Price Lower In Nigeria Than US, UK, Ghana, Others

Nigeria continues to rank among countries with relatively low petrol prices, even as global energy costs rise. Recent data shows that fuel remains more affordable locally compared to several major economies and African neighbours.

According to global pricing reports, petrol in Nigeria averages about $0.88 per litre. This is far below the global average, showing that Nigerian consumers still enjoy some level of price relief.

In comparison, countries like the United States, United Kingdom and Ghana record higher fuel prices. European nations such as France and Germany have even more expensive pump rates.

Experts link Nigeria’s relatively stable pricing to the impact of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals. The refinery has helped reduce pressure from global oil price changes by boosting local supply.

This support has become more important as international markets face disruptions due to geopolitical tensions. While prices in Nigeria have increased slightly, the rise is still lower compared to many other countries.

Analysts believe that local refining has strengthened Nigeria’s energy stability. It has reduced the risk of shortages and helped the country maintain one of the most affordable petrol markets globally despite a deregulated system.
