AFCON: Very decent woman’ – Gaye hails Nigerian judge after decision to strip Senegal of title

A top football analyst, Mamadou Gaye, has praised Nigerian judge Roli Daibo-Harriman for her role in a major decision involving the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Confederation of African Football Appeal Committee overturned Senegal’s AFCON title and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory after a controversial match incident.

Reports showed Senegal players left the pitch in protest after a penalty decision, causing a long delay. According to CAF rules, such actions can lead to forfeiting the match.

Although Sadio Mané convinced teammates to return and finish the game, regulations still applied, leading to the committee’s final ruling.

Gaye commended the Appeal Committee’s independence, noting that the decision followed careful review of evidence, including match footage and official reports.

He also highlighted the professionalism of Daibo-Harriman, describing her as a respected figure whose leadership reflects fairness and transparency in African football governance.
