Akwa Ibom: Take advantage of FG’s autonomy on admissions – Varsity Chair to Institutions

The Chairman of Topfaith University, Emmanuel Abraham, has advised higher institutions in Akwa Ibom State to take full advantage of the new admission autonomy granted by the federal government.

His statement follows a directive from Federal Ministry of Education, led by Tunji Alausa, allowing universities to manage their admission processes independently.

The new policy reduces reliance on Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board as the main requirement for admitting students into tertiary institutions.

Dr Abraham explained that university autonomy is a global practice, giving institutions the power to decide who qualifies for admission based on their specific needs and standards.

He added that factors like available facilities, staff strength, and the institution’s vision should guide admission decisions rather than a single exam result.

On claims of admission malpractice, Abraham dismissed such allegations as unproven, stressing that transparency largely depends on the integrity of each institution.
