Bayelsa Vigilante Captures Notorious Cultist in Yenagoa

In a significant development for local security, the Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Service successfully arrested Christopher Izzy, a 26-year-old suspected cultist known as Machala, on August 19, 2024. This arrest represents a major victory in the fight against crime in Yenagoa.

Christopher Izzy, originally from Edo State, had been a wanted man for his involvement in various criminal activities, including robbery and cultism. His arrest came after a robbery victim recognized him along the Biogbolo axis of Yenagoa. This identification was crucial in tracking down the suspect, who had been causing considerable alarm in the community.

Izzy and his gang were notorious for targeting supermarkets, Point of Sale (POS) stores, and even pedestrians using commercial tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep. They would often attack these locations, using fake firearms to intimidate victims and steal valuables.

During the arrest, vigilante operatives conducted a thorough search of Izzy and discovered several items of interest:

  • A fake gun, which the gang used to commit their crimes.
  • A mobile phone, possibly used for coordinating their activities.
  • Illegal drugs, including cocaine, which was identified as crystal meth.

The impact of Izzy’s criminal activities on the community was severe. Stanley Ogodo, a supermarket owner in the Ebis Biogbolo area, reported that Izzy and his gang had attacked his business on multiple occasions. On one particularly alarming instance, they held up customers at gunpoint, stealing goods, customer items, and other valuables. This repeated harassment had caused significant fear and disruption among local residents and business owners.

Hon. Doubiye Alagba, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, confirmed the importance of this arrest. He described it as a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state. Alagba emphasized that the capture of Izzy would help restore a sense of security in Yenagoa and deter similar criminal activities in the future.

The arrest of Christopher Izzy is a positive development for Bayelsa State, reflecting the effective work of the Vigilante Security Service in tackling crime and enhancing safety for all residents.
