The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a bill for the second reading to establish the Benue Road Maintenance Agency. The proposed agency is aimed at improving road conditions across the state through regular and proper maintenance.
Leading the debate, Thomas Dugeri explained that many roads are built but later neglected. He said the new agency would ensure a proactive system that keeps roads in good shape instead of waiting until they are badly damaged.
The bill also focuses on improving rural roads to support farmers and boost the movement of goods. Lawmakers believe better road networks will reduce losses, improve food supply, and strengthen Benue’s position as a major agricultural hub.
Speaker Alfred Emberga has now referred the bill to relevant committees for further review. If passed into law, the agency is expected to create jobs and protect public investments in road infrastructure.
