A senior member of the All Progressives Congress, Ismaeel Ahmed, has stated that the party does not actively look for politicians to join its fold. He made this known during an interview on Politics Today.
According to him, while the party welcomes new members, it does not intentionally target opposition figures or encourage defections. He added that constant movement between parties does not fully reflect strong democratic values.
Ahmed also shared his personal view, describing Nigeria’s opposition as weak. He said opposition parties failed to use available opportunities to strengthen themselves, which may have contributed to the increasing number of defections.
Recent political movements have seen several governors switch to the APC, with Seyi Makinde among the few remaining opposition governors. Despite this trend, Ahmed maintained that the party’s growth is not driven by actively recruiting defectors.
