Umahi denies treating 2021 missing NELAN Engineers with kid gloves

Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has denied claims that he treated the disappearance of five NELAN engineers in 2021 lightly. The engineers went missing during the Effium-Ezza communal conflict in Ebonyi State while constructing a road for the state government.

Umahi explained that the engineers were victims of a wider communal war that claimed many lives and destroyed property. He personally mobilized security agencies and led search efforts at the site, showing the seriousness with which the matter was treated.

The Minister stated that suspects involved in the incident were arrested and confessed, and the case remains before the courts. Umahi emphasized that the judicial process continues even after his tenure as Governor, and the government did not abandon the matter.

He expressed sympathy for the families of the missing engineers, urging public discussions to remain guided by facts. Umahi reiterated his commitment to justice, truth, and the rule of law, while praying for the souls of the departed and strength for their relatives.
